U20 AFCON: Kenya, Tanzania held, Uganda off to a flier


Uganda Hippos claimed a resounding victory while Kenya and Tanzania U20 sides played to tied outcomes as the race for 2019 AFCON games in Niger kicked off this weekend across the continent.
A Richard Odada early strike moved Kenya to the brink of victory before Rogue Bwingtiko's late goal saw the Junior Waspsclaim a crucial away draw in the tie staged in Machakos.
Stanley Okumbi charges will, however, look to their dominance in the first leg as Junior Wasps side hopes to make count of a home advantage in the return tie.

The tie's overall winner awaits  2017 AFCON winners Zambia in the next round.
Tanzania's Ngorongoro Heroes also failed to get their way past Congo DR juniors the two playing out to a goalless draw. Ammy Ninje lads had a recorded a 3-0 win over Mozambique in a build-up match but failed to get the scoring touch on Saturday.
Burundi Uganda on wins

Uganda's Hippos and Burundi were the only East African to claim wins in the first preliminary ties.
Allan Okello, Mustapa Kizza, Steven Mukwala, Solomon Ovoyo and Hamis Tibita provided the goals for Matias Lule coached side who walloped South Sudan5-1 in Uganda.
Burundi on their part stunned Ethiopia 2-0.


Other big winners in the continent included Gabon who whacked Togo 4-0 in the first leg and Algeria who thrashed Tunisia 3-1.
